Brunswick
Silhouettes
Medium: Watercolour and ink
This series was inspired by a family holiday to Brunswick Heads. Each evening, the soft curtain of dusk would descend on the Brunswick River, closing a day full of wonderful memories in the outdoors. I have always found dusk to be a magical time where my thoughts flow like water, the edges of reality blur and even time becomes indefinite. I invite the viewer to pause and take a moment to experience these emotions of peace and contemplation along with me.
The words that come to mind when I think back to this moment in time are 'stillness', 'ethereal' and 'reflection'. Weaving my way between the she-oak bushes on the rocky shore of Brunswick River I can still feel the crisp autumn breeze and last warmth of the sun leaving the earth as the day faded into dusk. I remember being mesmerised by the striking black silhouette of the foliage against the sky and I have attempted to share this atmosphere with the viewer.
